Brembo OE Brakes for the Jeep Grand Cherokee: Which Parts Fit

Brembo OE brake kit with UV-coated rotors and Prime pads for the Jeep Grand Cherokee

By Core Brake Parts Tech Team — Circleville, OH warehouse

For the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Brembo OE parts we carry are complete axle kits: a pair of UV-coated Brembo discs plus a matched set of Brembo Prime pads, sold separately for the front and rear. They cover the WK2-generation Grand Cherokee from 2011 through 2020 on standard brake packages. If you drive an SRT, SRT8 or Trackhawk with the factory Brembo big-brake calipers, these kits are not your part - skip to the SRT section below.

Brembo OE Kits vs. the Factory Brembo Calipers on the SRT

The name causes a lot of confusion. The high-performance Grand Cherokee SRT left the factory with red-painted Brembo calipers: Stellantis lists six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear, clamping vented rotors that measure 15 inches in front and 13.8 inches in the rear. That is a different brake system from the one on a Laredo, Limited, Overland or Summit.

Brembo OE, on the other hand, is the Brembo replacement-parts line for everyday cars and trucks. The kits below are built for the standard Grand Cherokee brakes: the stock calipers stay on the vehicle, and you replace the wear items - rotors and pads - with Brembo parts. Think of it as an OE-grade service job, not a caliper upgrade.

Which Brembo OE Kit Fits Your Grand Cherokee

We carry four front kits and three rear kits. The year ranges below are the fitment listings for each kit. The Grand Cherokee was built with more than one brake package across these years, and some kits skip a model year, so treat this table as a shortlist and confirm by year, trim and brake package (or your VIN) before you order.

Kit Axle Grand Cherokee years listed Rotor Pad
Brembo OE front kit KT00990 Front 2011-2020 UV-coated vented Prime ceramic
Brembo OE front kit KT00842 Front 2011-2020 UV-coated vented Prime ceramic
Brembo OE front kit KT00666 Front 2012-2015, 2017-2020 UV-coated slotted PVT Prime ceramic
Brembo OE front kit KT04315 Front 2012-2015, 2017-2020 UV-coated slotted PVT Prime low-metallic
Brembo OE rear kit KT00643 Rear 2012-2018 UV-coated PVT Prime ceramic
Brembo OE rear kit KT04288 Rear 2012-2018 UV-coated PVT Prime low-metallic
Brembo OE rear kit KT00A43 Rear 2011-2015, 2017-2019 UV-coated vented Prime ceramic

Two front kits that list the same years are not automatically interchangeable - they are usually built for different rotor diameters within the same model range. The quickest way to settle it is to measure your current rotor or check the size cast into it, then match that to the listing. Most of these kits are also listed for the Dodge Durango of the same era, because the two SUVs share a platform.

What Is in a Brembo OE Kit

The rotors

Brembo casts its aftermarket discs from high carbon cast iron, the material family it supplies to original equipment production. Higher carbon content damps vibration and noise and moves heat out of the braking surface faster, which is what keeps the pedal consistent coming down a long grade or towing. The discs carry a water-based UV coating on the hat, edge and vanes so they do not turn orange after the first wet week.

Several of the Grand Cherokee kits use the patented Brembo Pillar Venting Technology (PVT). Instead of straight internal vanes, the two rotor faces are joined by a pattern of pillars. Brembo states that PVT increases resistance to thermal cracking by more than 40 percent. For a heavy SUV that tows, that is a real benefit, not decoration.

The pads

Every kit comes with Brembo Prime pads, which Brembo positions as OE-equivalent. You choose between two compounds:

  • Prime ceramic - less metal in the compound, lower dust, quieter operation. Best for daily driving and owners who hate cleaning wheels.
  • Prime low-metallic - more metal content for bite and heat tolerance. A better fit if you tow regularly or drive in hilly country, at the cost of more dust.

Brembo packs its pads with wear indicators, an accessory kit, anti-noise shims and a B-Quiet grease packet, and each kit arrives with the hardware needed for the job. Shop more options in our brake pads collection or browse replacement brake rotors.

Parts for the SRT, SRT8 and Trackhawk

Because the SRT family uses the larger factory Brembo system, it needs rotors built for those calipers. Our rotors for these trims come from other performance brands:

Two-piece rotors separate the iron friction ring from an aluminum hat, which cuts rotating weight and lets you replace just the ring later. They are a common choice for owners who take an SRT to the track.

Symptoms, Recalls and What to Replace at the Same Time

The usual signs the Grand Cherokee needs a front or rear brake job are a pulsing pedal or steering-wheel shake under braking (uneven rotor thickness), grinding or a metallic squeal from the wear indicator, a visible lip on the rotor edge, or pads worn down to the minimum thickness in the service manual. Replace rotors and pads as an axle set so side-to-side braking stays balanced.

Before you blame pads for a hard or weak pedal, check the recall history. NHTSA campaign 14V154000 covered 2011-2014 Grand Cherokee and Durango models whose brake booster center shell could corrode and let water in; that water could freeze and limit braking. A follow-up campaign, 17V572000, checked that the booster shields from that fix were installed properly. Separately, campaign 16V168000 covered a small group of 2015-2016 Grand Cherokee and Durango vehicles whose left front caliper could crack because it was made from the wrong material. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov to see if any open recall applies.

While the wheels are off, inspect the brake hoses for cracking, make sure the caliper slide pins move freely and are lubricated, and consider fresh brake hardware if the clips are rusted. Clean the hub face so the new disc seats flat and runout stays low. Use the brake fluid type printed on your master cylinder cap and in the owner's manual, and never introduce petroleum-based fluid into the system.

Difficulty: a front or rear pad-and-rotor job on a standard Grand Cherokee is a moderate DIY with a floor jack, stands and a torque wrench. Torque caliper bracket bolts and lug nuts to the values in the factory service manual, then bed the new pads in with a series of moderate stops before hard driving or towing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Brembo OE kits upgrade my Grand Cherokee to Brembo calipers?

No. Brembo OE kits replace the rotors and pads on your existing calipers. Only the SRT-family trims came with factory Brembo calipers.

Ceramic or low-metallic pads for a Grand Cherokee that tows?

If you tow often or drive long grades, the Prime low-metallic kits handle heat better. For mostly commuting, Prime ceramic runs quieter and cleaner.

Why are there two front kits for the same years?

The Grand Cherokee used more than one front brake package across those years, so kits differ by rotor size. Measure your current rotor or check your VIN before ordering.

Do these kits fit the Dodge Durango too?

Most of them are also listed for the Durango of the same era, since the two share a platform. Check the individual listing for exact years.

Will Brembo OE parts fit my Grand Cherokee SRT?

No. The SRT uses 15-inch front and 13.8-inch rear rotors with six- and four-piston Brembo calipers, so it needs SRT-specific rotors like the DBA, EBC and Hawk parts listed above.
