Just had new pads and rotors installed and the brakes feel grabby or touchy - biting harder than expected? This is common right after a brake job. Here is why new brakes feel grabby.
They have not bedded in yet
Fresh pads and rotors need a break-in (bedding) process to lay down an even layer of pad material on the rotor; until that happens, the bite can be uneven or grabby; see do brakes need breaking in. It usually smooths out over the first hundred miles.
New pads bite differently
A fresh pad has full friction material and sharp edges, so it can feel more aggressive than your old worn pads did - especially if you switched compounds (e.g. to a more aggressive pad). Your foot is also just used to the old feel.
Leftover coating or glaze
If the rotor's protective oil was not fully cleaned off, or the pads were not bedded, you can get an uneven grab or a glaze; see new rotor coating. A proper bed-in usually fixes this.
What to do
Bed the brakes in with a series of firm slowdowns, then give them a few hundred miles to settle; see new brake feel. If they stay grabby or pull, check for a sticking caliper. Fit quality pads and hardware.
