What differential bores do

The leading edge of a brake pad sees higher mechanical load and higher temperature than the trailing edge. Staggering the piston bores compensates for that difference, spreading clamp load more evenly across the pad face and reducing taper wear during sustained high-temperature use. That makes these calipers a common choice for dirt and asphalt oval, off-road, rally, and road course cars.
