What braided lines change
A rubber hose expands slightly every time you press the pedal, and that expansion is lost pedal travel. The PTFE core inside a stainless braid barely moves, so more of your input goes straight to the caliper piston. The result is a firmer, more consistent pedal and finer control at the threshold - the difference is most obvious on a 30-year-old car whose original hoses have softened with age.
