Why a floating 2-piece disc
Letting the iron ring expand and contract independently of the alloy bell keeps the disc face flat as temperature swings, and the alloy centre removes unsprung rotational mass - sharper turn-in and better tyre contact. Because only the ring is consumable, the long-term running cost is lower than replacing a one-piece disc.
