Why floating two-piece discs

Letting the cast iron ring float on stainless bobbins allows it to grow with heat instead of fighting the hat, which keeps the disc flat under hard use. The aluminium bell removes unsprung rotational mass for sharper turn-in and better road holding. When the friction ring wears out, the ring alone can be replaced and the centre hub and bobbins reused.
