A vacuum bleeder draws fluid out through the bleeder screw so you never touch the pedal. A pressure bleeder pushes fluid from the reservoir down through the system. Both let you work alone. Gravity bleeding is the simplest: open the bleeder and let fluid drip out on its own, which is slow but effective for a single caliper. Whatever method you use, submerge the tube's end in a little fluid in the catch bottle so air cannot get sucked back in.

- Letting the master cylinder run dry, which forces you to bleed the whole system again.
- Reusing old fluid or leaving the bottle open.
- Over-tightening bleeder screws, which are easy to snap off. Snug is enough.
- Ignoring a soft pedal after bleeding, which usually means air remains or a hose is failing. Cracked or bulging brake hoses can expand under pressure and mimic trapped air, so inspect them while you are under the car.

With everything closed and torqued, pump the pedal several times. It should feel firm and high, not sinking. Check every bleeder and fitting for leaks, then top off the reservoir.
