Between the caliper and the steering knuckle sits a sturdy part most people never notice: the brake caliper bracket, also called the caliper anchor or mounting bracket. It is quietly essential to how disc brakes work. Here is what it does.
What the caliper bracket does
The bracket bolts solidly to the steering knuckle or hub and straddles the rotor. It does two key jobs: it holds the brake pads in position on either side of the rotor, and it provides the machined slots where the caliper's slide pins ride so a floating caliper can move in and out. Where the hardware lives
The stainless abutment clips from your brake hardware kit sit in the bracket's slots, giving the pad ears a clean, low-friction surface to slide on. When the bracket needs attention
- Heavy rust or pitting in the clip slots can bind the pads even with new clips - clean it up thoroughly, or replace the bracket if badly corroded.

- Torque matters: the bracket-to-knuckle bolts are torqued to spec; a loose bracket is dangerous.
