2014-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Brake Parts, Pads & Rotors
The GMT K2XX Silverado 1500 is a heavy half-ton, and its brakes work harder than most drivers give them credit for. Whether you daily-drive an empty short bed or routinely pull a boat up the ramp, the pads and rotors on this truck are consumables that wear on their own schedule. This page walks through exactly what fits the 2014-2019 Silverado 1500, how to read the wear, and which of our kits matches how you actually use the truck.
What Brake Pads and Rotors Fit a 2014-2019 Silverado 1500
This generation runs vented disc brakes at all four corners. Up front, most 2014-2019 1500s use a large vented rotor in the roughly 13-inch class paired with a single-piston sliding caliper and a wide pad. The rear runs a vented disc as well, with a smaller caliper and an integrated parking-brake function on the trucks that use a drum-in-hat style shoe inside the rotor hat. That rear setup is worth knowing about before you buy: it means the rear "rotor" is doing double duty as both the friction surface and the parking-brake drum.
Two fitment forks matter on this platform. First, the 2014-2018 trucks and the 2019 "Silverado 1500 LD" (the carryover body) share the older brake package, while the fully redesigned 2019+ T1 platform uses different rotors and pads. Get the model year and body style right and fitment is straightforward. Second, RPO brake codes (JE5, JH6, and the heavier-duty options) can change rotor diameter slightly between trim and payload packages, so if your truck was optioned for max towing, match to a tow-rated kit rather than a base ceramic set.
For friction choice: ceramic pads are the right call for most owners who want low dust and quiet stops on pavement. If you tow, haul, or see mountain grades, a carbon-fiber ceramic or severe-duty formula on a coated rotor resists the fade and heat-checking that plain ceramic can't shrug off under sustained load.
Common Brake Symptoms and Wear Patterns on This Truck
A few complaints show up again and again on the 2014-2019 1500:
- Pulsation and steering-wheel shimmy under braking — the front rotors on these trucks are prone to thickness variation and warping once they get hot, especially if the truck sat and surface-rusted or was braked hard while loaded. This is the single most common reason owners replace rotors here rather than resurfacing them.
- Rear brakes wearing faster than expected — the electronic brake distribution on the K2XX leans on the rear more than older trucks, so rear pads and rotors sometimes reach the wear line before or alongside the fronts.
- A soft or long pedal after towing — a sign the base pad compound is fading under heat. That is a signal to step up friction, not just swap like-for-like.
- Grinding or a metallic scrape — pads at the backing plate. At that point the rotor is almost always scored past reuse.
Replace pads when friction material drops to about 3mm, or sooner if you hear the wear indicator. Replace rotors in pairs (both fronts or both rears together) when you feel pulsation, see deep scoring or heat cracks, or when they fall below the minimum thickness stamped on the hat. Because the rears carry the parking brake, don't ignore a rear rotor that has grooved badly.
Parts That Fit Your 2014-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Here are the complete kits we stock for this truck, from budget-friendly to tow-rated:
- 2007-2018 Silverado 1500 Rear Complete Brake Kit with Calipers - Detroit Axle - $393.99. The value pick for the rear axle. Includes calipers, so it is ideal when a seized or leaking rear caliper is part of the problem, not just worn pads and rotors. Best for 2014-2018 owners doing a budget-conscious rear refresh.
- 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 / Escalade Full 4-Wheel Truck and Tow Brake Kit - Power Stop Z36 - $755.99. The all-corner tow package. Z36 carbon-fiber ceramic pads and drilled-and-slotted rotors are built for hauling and grades, giving you fade resistance and cooler running under load. Choose this if you tow or work the truck hard.
- 2019-2024 Silverado 1500 Full 4-Wheel Brake Kit - Power Stop CRK8171 Coated Rotors, Z17 Ceramic - $687.99. For the redesigned 2019 T1 platform. Fully coated rotors resist rust and Z17 ceramic pads keep wheels clean and stops quiet. The premium daily-driver choice for later 2019 trucks.

Silverado 1500 Brake FAQ
Do I have to replace the rear rotors when I do the rear parking-brake shoes?
Not always, but check the inside of the rotor hat. On this truck the rear rotor doubles as the parking-brake drum, so if the hat's inner surface is grooved or glazed the parking brake won't hold well. If it's worn, replace the rotor along with the shoes.
My steering wheel shakes when I brake from highway speed. Is that the rotors?
Almost certainly. Front rotor thickness variation and warping is the classic cause of brake pulsation on the 2014-2019 1500. Replace the front rotors in a pair and pair them with fresh pads rather than trying to resurface, since these rotors are often already near minimum thickness.
Should I run ceramic or the tow-rated pads?
If you mostly drive around town or highway unloaded, ceramic (like the Z17 kit) gives you clean wheels and quiet, comfortable stops. If you tow a trailer, haul heavy, or run grades, step up to the carbon-fiber Z36 tow kit so the brakes don't fade when they get hot.
