Replacing brake rotors on a Toyota GR86 is a pad job with two extra steps: taking the caliper bracket off the knuckle and getting the old rotor off the hub. It is a job most owners with a torque wrench and a set of jack stands can complete in an afternoon, and the payoff is a firm, quiet pedal that stays that way.
Before ordering, confirm which brake package the car carries. Base trims use the standard floating-caliper arrangement. Performance trims of the Toyota GR86 may use fixed multi-piston calipers that come off as a unit with no separate bracket, and sometimes two-piece rotors with a separate hat. The rotors and pads are not interchangeable between the two, so check first.

How to replace brake rotors on a Toyota GR86, step by step

A thin film of anti-seize on the hub face makes the next removal far easier; keep it entirely off the friction surface and the wheel studs unless the manual says otherwise.
Installation, torque, and bed-in
New rotors ship coated in protective oil, so wipe them thoroughly with brake cleaner before fitting. Reinstall the bracket and caliper to the torque values in the service manual and never to a guessed number. Grease the slide pins and pad contact points with high-temperature silicone caliper grease so the caliper floats and the pads do not bind or rattle. Retract the piston with a C-clamp or piston tool to fit the caliper over new pads, keeping an eye on the master cylinder reservoir.
Refit the wheel, torque the lug nuts in a star pattern in stages, then pump the pedal until it is firm before the car moves. Finish with the bed-in procedure the pad and rotor maker specifies, and avoid hard driving until it is done. Bedding lays an even layer of friction material onto the rotor face, and it is the difference between brakes that feel factory-fresh and brakes that judder. If you fitted performance pads and rotors, bed them in carefully and exactly per the maker.
