Learning how to replace brake rotors on a Ford F-450 comes down to the pad job plus two extra steps: getting the caliper bracket off the knuckle, and getting the old rotor off the hub. Nothing about the sequence is exotic, but the scale is. This is a heavy-duty truck with 8-lug wheels, high bracket torque, and rotors heavy enough to be awkward to handle alone.

How to replace brake rotors on a Ford F-450, step by step
- Crack the lug nuts loose while the wheel is still on the ground.
- Lift the truck with a jack rated for its weight and set it down on jack stands. Chock the wheels at the opposite end.
- Remove the wheel. Because these wheels are heavy, roll them clear rather than lifting and twisting.
- Unbolt the caliper and hang it from a hook so the flexible hose carries no weight. A hanging caliper on its hose is how hoses get damaged.

Scrub the hub face to bare metal with a wire brush or an abrasive disc until it is uniformly clean and flat, then wipe it down. A thin film of anti-seize on the hub face, kept off the friction surface, makes the next rotor removal far easier.
New rotors ship with a protective oil coating. Wipe it off completely with brake cleaner before installation, or the first stop will smear it into the pads.
Reassembly, torque, and bed-in
Reinstall the caliper bracket and caliper at service-manual torque. Do not guess these values, and do not reuse a stretch bolt if the manual calls for replacement. Retract the piston with a C-clamp or piston tool so the caliper fits over the new pads, and keep an eye on the master cylinder reservoir so it does not overflow.

Yes. Rotors should be replaced in axle pairs so braking force is even side to side. Mixing a new rotor with a worn one on the same axle can pull the truck under braking.
Can I reuse my old pads with new rotors?
