DBA makes two 4000 Series T3 slotted rotors for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe: DBA42466S for the front axle and DBA42467S for the rear. Both are built for cars that left the factory with the Brembo brake package, which uses a 340 mm front rotor and a 330 mm rear rotor. If your Genesis Coupe has the standard brakes instead, these rotors will not fit, so the first job is confirming which system your car has.
Which Genesis Coupe brake system do you have?
Hyundai built the Genesis Coupe with two different brake setups. Many cars use conventional sliding calipers with smaller rotors. The performance trims, such as the R-Spec and Track models, got a Brembo package with fixed multi-piston calipers at all four corners. The two systems do not share rotors, pads or calipers.
The quickest check takes ten seconds: look through the wheel spokes. Brembo cars have large painted calipers with the Brembo name on them, mounted over a big rotor that fills most of the wheel. A standard-brake car has a plain sliding caliper. If you bought the car used and are not sure what has been swapped, measure the front rotor diameter or read the part number on the old rotor before ordering.
| Item | Front (Brembo cars) | Rear (Brembo cars) |
|---|---|---|
| DBA part number | DBA42466S | DBA42467S |
| Series | 4000 Series T3, slotted, one-piece | 4000 Series T3, slotted, one-piece |
| Rotor diameter | 340 mm (13.39 in) | 330 mm |
| OE thickness, new / minimum | 28 mm / 26 mm | Use the minimum cast into the rotor |
| Sold as | Single rotor | Single rotor |
Because these rotors are sold one at a time, order two per axle. Replacing only one side of an axle gives uneven braking and a pull.
What the DBA 4000 Series T3 changes over a stock rotor
The 4000 Series is DBA's top one-piece line, positioned as an upgrade over plain OE replacement. On the Genesis Coupe rotors the main differences are in the metal, the cooling vanes and the slots.
- XG-150 high-carbon alloyed iron. Higher carbon content helps the casting absorb and shed heat and resist cracking under repeated hard stops.
- Thermal Stability Profiling. DBA heat-treats the castings to relieve internal stress, which helps a rotor resist distortion and thickness variation after heat cycles.
- Kangaroo Paw ventilation. Instead of straight vanes, the rotor uses 144 diamond and teardrop-shaped pillars between the friction faces. DBA states this gives up to 30 percent more internal surface area and 20 percent better cooling efficiency than a straight-vane design.
- T3 tri-symmetrical slots. The machined slots give pad dust and gases an exit path and wipe the pad face, which keeps bite consistent and pedal feel smooth.
- Thermo-Graphic heat paint. Temperature-indicating paint marks on the rotor change color as they reach set temperatures, so after a track day you can see how hot the brakes actually got.
- Black high-temperature coating on the non-friction areas to slow surface rust.
For a Genesis Coupe that sees spirited back-road driving, autocross or an occasional track day, those features address the real limit of the stock Brembo package: it is a strong system, but repeated hard stops heat the rotors quickly, and heat is what causes fade, uneven pad deposits and shudder.
Signs your Genesis Coupe rotors are done
The Brembo system is durable, but the rotors wear like any other. Replace them when you see any of these:
- Steering wheel or pedal shudder under braking, especially from highway speed. This usually means uneven pad deposits or thickness variation across the rotor face.
- Thickness at or below minimum. The front OE Brembo rotor starts at 28 mm and should be replaced at 26 mm. Measure with a micrometer at several points around the face, not on the outer lip.
- Heat cracks that run in from the edge or connect slots, or blue heat discoloration across the friction face.
- A deep lip at the outer edge, or grooves you can catch a fingernail in, often left behind when pads were run down to the backing plate.
Machining these rotors is rarely worth it on this car, because the margin between new and minimum thickness on the front is only 2 mm. New rotors with new pads is the normal fix.
What to replace at the same time
Always fit new pads with new rotors. Old pads carry a transfer layer shaped to the old rotor and will not bed evenly. The Brembo calipers take their own pad shape, different from the standard-brake cars, so match the pad to the Brembo caliper when you shop our brake pads. A performance ceramic pad suits street driving with low dust; a more aggressive compound suits regular track use.
While the wheels are off:
- Inspect the flexible brake hoses for cracking or swelling. Braided lines firm up the pedal on a car that sees track time; see our brake lines.
- Flush the brake fluid if it is dark or has not been changed on the schedule in your owner's manual. Use the fluid type printed on the reservoir cap. Hot track sessions boil old, moisture-laden fluid long before the pads give up.
- Check that the caliper pistons move smoothly and the pad pins and anti-rattle springs are intact.
How hard is the job?
Swapping rotors on a Brembo-equipped Genesis Coupe is a reasonable driveway job for someone who has done brakes before. Fixed calipers make it simpler than many cars because there is no slide hardware to service. The general sequence is:
- Loosen the lug nuts, raise the car on a jack, and support it on jack stands.
- Remove the pad retaining pins and pads, then unbolt the caliper from the knuckle and hang it so it does not dangle on the hose.
- Remove the rotor retaining screw if fitted and pull the rotor off the hub. Clean rust and scale from the hub face so the new rotor sits flat.
- Fit the DBA rotor. At the rear, check the parking brake shoes inside the rotor hat and their adjustment before refitting the caliper.
- Refit the caliper and torque the caliper bolts and wheel lugs to the values in the factory service manual.
- Pump the pedal until it is firm before moving the car, then bed the pads in with a series of moderate stops from speed, without holding the brakes at a standstill while they are hot.
Bedding is not optional with slotted performance rotors. It lays down an even pad transfer layer, which is what prevents the shudder most people blame on warped rotors.
Front and rear fitment we carry
We stock both DBA rotors for this car. The DBA 4000 Series T3 front rotor for the 2011-2016 Genesis Coupe fits Brembo-equipped cars. The DBA 4000 Series T3 rear rotor for the 2013 Genesis Coupe Track and R-Spec is listed for those Brembo trims; confirm your model year and trim on the product page before ordering. Frequently Asked Questions
Will DBA42466S fit a Genesis Coupe without Brembo brakes?
No. DBA42466S is sized for the 340 mm front rotor on Brembo-equipped Genesis Coupes. Cars with the standard sliding-caliper brakes use a smaller rotor and need a different part.
Do I need to buy the DBA rotors in pairs?
They are sold individually, but you should always replace both rotors on an axle together so braking stays even side to side.
Can I use my original Brembo pads with new DBA rotors?
You can, but it is not recommended. Worn pads are shaped to the old rotor and carry its transfer layer. Fresh pads bed evenly and give full contact from the first stop.
Do slotted rotors wear pads faster?
Slots scrape the pad face to clear dust and gases, so pad wear can be slightly higher than with a plain face. For most street-driven Genesis Coupes the difference is small, and the gain in consistency under heat is worth it.
What does the heat paint on DBA rotors tell me?
The Thermo-Graphic paint marks change color as the rotor reaches set temperatures. After a track session, check which marks have changed to judge whether your pads and fluid are working within their temperature range.
