DBA parts for the Volkswagen GTI come down to which generation and which brake package your car has. For 2006-2013 GTIs, the DBA DB1849RP front pad fits; for 2014-2020 GTIs with the 312mm front disc (not the Performance Package), the DB2383RP front pad fits; and for 2014-2018 Performance Package cars with the 310mm rear disc, the DBA2809X Street Series X Gold rear rotor fits. The two pads are track compounds, so read the section on street use before you order.
First, identify which GTI brakes you have
Volkswagen has fitted more than one brake package to the GTI, and pads and rotors are sized to the disc, not just the model year. According to a Volkswagen dealer overview of the Mk7 Performance Package, a standard GTI of that era used 12.4-inch vented front discs with 10.7-inch solid rear discs, while the Performance Package stepped up to 13.4-inch vented front discs and larger vented rear discs. The 312mm front disc named in the DB2383RP fitment is the standard front disc (312mm is roughly 12.3 inches); the Performance Package front disc is bigger and takes a different pad.
How to tell what is on your car without guessing:
- Look at the front calipers. Performance Package cars wear red front calipers with a GTI logo.
- Check the window sticker or build sheet for "Performance Package". It was standard on some trims and optional on others, depending on year.
- Measure the disc. Measure the outside diameter of the rotor face and the thickness with a micrometer. This is the one method that never lies, especially on a used car that may have had parts swapped.
Once you know the generation (Mk5 or Mk6 for 2006-2013, Mk7 or Mk7.5 for 2014 onward) and the disc size, the DBA fitment below is straightforward.
DBA parts that fit the GTI, by generation
| Part | Position | GTI fitment | Key spec (from DBA) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DBA DB1849RP Race Performance pads | Front | 2006-2013 (Mk5, Mk6) | 155.3 x 66.1 x 18.7mm, semi-metallic carbon fibre |
| DBA DB2383RP Race Performance pads | Front | 2014-2020 with 312mm front disc, excludes Performance Package | 160 x 64.5 x 18.3mm, semi-metallic carbon fibre |
| DBA2809X Street Series X Gold rotor | Rear | 2014-2018 with Performance Package (310mm rear) | 310 x 22mm, 20mm minimum thickness, 5-stud |
The pad dimensions matter because they are how you confirm a match against the pads coming off your car. If the old pad is visibly a different shape or length, stop and re-check the disc size before you go further.
DBA Race Performance pads: great on track, wrong for the commute
Both front pads above are from DBA's RACE PERFORMANCE line. DBA lists an operating range of 250 to 750 degrees C and designs the compound for use above 350 degrees C (662 degrees F). DBA is blunt about it: the range is not suitable for road use. The material is a semi-metallic compound reinforced with carbon fibre, and it contains copper.
What that means in practice:
- Cold bite is lower than a street pad. DBA uses a post-cure scorch process to raise cold friction and shorten bedding time, but a race compound still wants heat that a school run never builds.
- Noise and dust go up. Aggressive semi-metallic track pads are louder and dustier than street ceramics.
- Pair them with the right rotor. DBA recommends its 5000 Series T3 slotted rotors with these pads for maximum consistency on track.
The right buyer for DB1849RP or DB2383RP is a GTI owner doing track days, autocross or time attack, ideally swapping pads for event weekends. If your GTI is a daily driver that sees the occasional spirited back road, a street compound from our ceramic brake pads or the broader brake pads range is the better choice.
DBA2809X rear rotor for Performance Package cars
The DBA2809X is a Street Series X Gold rotor, which DBA positions as a direct-replacement, OE-level upgrade aimed at daily drivers. Per DBA's product page, it is a 310mm diameter, 22mm thick vented rear disc with a 20mm minimum thickness, a 5-stud pattern, and DBA's Kangaroo Paw vane design, which DBA says offers up to 20 percent better heat dissipation. Non-friction areas are painted against rust, the hat carries a gold finish, and the cross-drilled and slotted face is non-directional, so the same part fits left and right. You need two per car.
Unlike the pads, this is a street part. It suits a Performance Package GTI owner replacing worn rear discs who wants a drilled and slotted look with a proper anti-rust finish. Measure the old disc first: if it is already at or below 20mm, it was due.
When you replace rear rotors, replace the rear pads at the same time and clean the caliper slide pins and abutment clips. A fresh brake hardware kit is cheap insurance against squeal and uneven wear.
Other GTI upgrades we carry
DBA is not the only route. For Mk7 owners, we also stock EBC USR slotted front rotors for the 2015-2019 GTI Mk7, matching EBC USR slotted rear rotors, and EBC race pads in RP-1 and RP-X compounds.
For 2006-2012 Mk5 and Mk6 cars, the Wilwood Narrow Superlite 6R front big brake kit replaces the front brake with forged six-piston calipers and 12.88 x 1.10-inch rotors. Wilwood states the kit is engineered to work with the OE master cylinder output and ABS, includes Flexline brake lines, and requires at least 17-inch wheels, so confirm your wheel clearance against Wilwood's diagram first.
How hard is the job?
Front pads on a GTI are a moderate driveway job with basic hand tools: lift and support the car, remove the caliper, swap the pads, clean and lubricate the contact points, and reinstall. Front rotors add the caliper carrier and the rotor retaining screw. If your GTI has an electronic parking brake, the rear caliper pistons cannot simply be pushed back; the system has to be put into service mode with a capable scan tool first, so check your car before you start the rear job. Torque every fastener to the value in the factory service manual, and bed in new pads according to the pad maker's procedure. Track pads in particular need a proper heat-cycling bed-in before your first session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use DBA Race Performance pads on my daily-driven GTI?
DBA says the RACE PERFORMANCE range is not suitable for road use. The compound is designed for temperatures above 350 degrees C, which normal street driving rarely reaches, so cold stopping, noise and dust are all worse than with a street pad.
Does the DB2383RP fit a GTI with the Performance Package?
No. The DB2383RP fits 2014-2020 GTIs with the 312mm front disc and excludes the Performance Package, which uses a larger front disc.
Which DBA front pad fits a 2010 GTI?
The DB1849RP is listed for 2006-2013 GTIs, which covers the Mk5 and Mk6 generations. Compare the old pad to DBA's listed dimensions before installing.
How do I know if my GTI has the Performance Package brakes?
Performance Package cars have red front calipers with a GTI logo. Your window sticker will also list it, and measuring the rotor diameter confirms it.
What is the minimum thickness for the DBA2809X rear rotor?
DBA lists a 20mm minimum thickness for the 22mm DBA2809X. Replace the disc when it measures at or below that.
Do I need new rotors with new pads?
Not always, but measure the rotor thickness and check for heavy grooves or pulsation. If the rotor is near minimum thickness, replace both so the new pads bed in on a flat, fresh surface.
