Caliper trouble on a 2023-2024 Acura Integra usually shows up as a pull to one side, a hot or smelly wheel after a drive, or one pad wearing far faster than its partner. On the standard Integra the cause is most often a sticking slide pin or piston rather than a failed caliper body, and on the rear axle the electric parking brake motor adds a step you must respect before you touch the pads. The 2024 Integra Type S is a different animal, with fixed Brembo four-piston front calipers that have no slide pins at all.
How the Integra Brake System Is Laid Out
Every 2023-2024 Integra has four-wheel disc brakes. Acura does not publish caliper details for the standard car, but its Type S materials give the rotor sizes for both versions, which tells you how different the two systems are.
| Model | Front rotor | Rear rotor | Front caliper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Integra (2023-2024, standard and A-Spec) | 12.3 in | 11.1 in | Conventional sliding caliper |
| Integra Type S (2024) | 13.8 in, two-piece | 12.0 in | Brembo 4-piston monobloc aluminum |
The Type S also gets functional ducts in the front fascia that route cooling air to the front rotors. Parts are not interchangeable between the two: a standard Integra caliper, pad or rotor will not fit a Type S, and the reverse is true too. Confirm which car you have before ordering anything.
The rear calipers carry the electric parking brake. Acura's owner's manual notes that you may hear the parking brake motor operating from the rear wheel area when you apply or release it, and that this is normal. That motor drives the rear caliper piston, so the rear piston cannot simply be pushed back with a C-clamp the way older cars allowed.
Symptoms of a Caliper Problem
- Pull while braking or cruising. A caliper that will not release drags that wheel, so the car tugs toward the sticking side.
- One hot wheel. After a normal drive, a dragging brake leaves that wheel noticeably hotter than the others, often with a burning smell and heavier brake dust on that rim.
- Uneven pad wear. One pad worn much thinner than the other on the same caliper, or one side of the axle wearing faster, points to binding pins or a lazy piston.
- A steady metallic scrape. The owner's manual explains that a continuous metallic friction sound when braking is the wear indicator touching the rotor, meaning the pads are due. A dragging caliper gets you there early.
- Brake fluid on the inside of the wheel or tire. A leaking piston seal is a replace-now problem, not a clean-and-lube one.
- A rear brake that stays on after release. In cold weather the manual warns the parking brake may freeze in place if applied. That is not a failed caliper, but repeated sticking in mild weather deserves a look at the rear pistons and pads.
Rule Out the Brake Hold Recall First
If your symptom is a long, sinking brake pedal or the car creeping while automatic brake hold is engaged, check for NHTSA recall 23V430 before blaming a caliper. It covers certain 2023 Integra models along with some Civic, RDX and Accord vehicles: a ball valve in the vehicle stability assist (VSA) modulator may leak brake fluid, which can cause unintended vehicle movement with brake hold engaged or an unexpected increase in pedal travel. The dealer remedy is a replacement VSA modulator at no cost. Run your VIN on the NHTSA recall page linked below. A caliper problem gives you pull, drag and uneven wear; a modulator problem shows up at the pedal.
Common Causes on the Standard Integra
A sliding caliper has to float freely on its pins so both pads clamp evenly. A Brake and Front End tech tip lists the usual reasons it stops floating: bent or binding mounting pins, worn slides, damaged brackets, swollen or hardened guide seals, and lack of lubrication. On a young car like the Integra, the most common story is a pin boot that tore or was pinched during an earlier pad change, letting water and road salt in.
The other cause is a piston that drags because its seal or dust boot is damaged and corrosion has started on the piston face. Once the piston surface is pitted, cleaning will not bring it back, and the caliper should be replaced.
On the Type S the Brembo front calipers are fixed, so pin binding does not apply up front. Uneven wear there usually points to a sticky piston or pad hardware, while the rear calipers still behave like the standard car's.
The Fix and Which Parts to Replace
Start by pulling the pads and checking whether the slide pins move by hand. If they are gritty or stuck, clean the pins and bores, fit new boots and use high-temperature caliper lubricant on the pins, sleeves and sliding surfaces. A fresh brake hardware kit covers the clips and boots. If the pins are bent, the piston is leaking, or the piston will not retract, replace the caliper.
What to replace together:
- Calipers in axle pairs when one has failed from age or corrosion, so braking stays balanced side to side. Browse replacement brake calipers and match by model, axle and side.
- Pads on both wheels of that axle. Pads that sat against a dragging caliper are usually glazed or tapered. For the rear, we carry 2023-2024 Acura Integra rear ceramic brake pads from Bendix, or see all brake pads.
- Rotors if they are overheated or scored. A dragging caliper can leave blue heat spots and a pulsing pedal. Replace brake rotors in pairs.
- Brake fluid. Opening the hydraulic system for a caliper swap means bleeding the brakes with fresh fluid of the type printed on your reservoir cap.
How Hard Is the Job
A front caliper on a standard Integra is a moderate job for a home mechanic with a jack, stands, a torque wrench and a bleeder kit: the caliper bolts, the bracket bolts and the banjo bolt at the hose. Torque every fastener to the value in the factory service manual and use new sealing washers on the banjo fitting.
The rear is harder because of the electric parking brake. The rear piston must be retracted through the parking brake system's service or maintenance procedure with a capable scan tool before the caliper comes off or new pads go in. Forcing the piston back mechanically can damage the motor and gear. If you do not have a tool that supports the procedure, this is the part of the job to hand to a shop.
Type S front Brembo calipers are the most specialized of all. Pad changes are straightforward, but caliper replacement and bleeding should follow the factory procedure exactly.

Do 2023 and 2024 Integra calipers interchange?
For the standard and A-Spec models the brake system carried over, but always confirm fitment by model and trim. Type S parts are a separate system and do not interchange with the standard Integra.
Can I push the rear caliper piston back with a C-clamp?
No. The rear piston is driven by the electric parking brake motor. Use the parking brake maintenance procedure with a scan tool to retract it, or you risk damaging the actuator.
Why is only one wheel dusty and hot?
That wheel's brake is dragging. The likely causes are a binding slide pin or a sticking piston on that caliper. Fix it before the pads and rotor on that corner are ruined.
Is a soft or sinking pedal a caliper problem?
It can be a leaking caliper, but on a 2023 Integra first check recall 23V430 for the VSA modulator, which can cause increased pedal travel and movement during brake hold.
Should I replace both calipers if only one is bad?
If the failure is corrosion or age, yes, replace them as an axle pair so the brakes stay balanced. If one caliper was damaged by an isolated event, replacing just that side is acceptable as long as the other checks out.
